Summary

  • Track tables whose parallel load futures fail.
  • Report an incomplete load and exit nonzero after listing successful table results.

Fixes #3243.

Validation: git diff --check passed. No tests or builds were run.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Parallel ingestion runs now report a failure summary when one or more tables fail, rather than showing a normal completion summary.
    • Results for successfully loaded tables remain available even when other tables fail.
    • The command now exits with a failure status when a parallel table load fails, making unsuccessful runs easier to identify.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The ingestion script records table failures from parallel loads. It reports failures after processing, still lists successful table results, and exits with status 1 when a parallel load fails. Sequential loading behavior is unchanged.

Change: Bug fix · Severity of issue fixed: Low

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 1eed0

The change makes parallel table-load exceptions return a nonzero exit code. A requested table whose data file is missing is still skipped, and the run reports success. Automation can therefore still miss a partial TPC-H load, so this should be fixed before merging.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in scripts/tpch_deeplake_ingest.py: Initializes failed_tables to collect table names whose parallel load futures fail.
  • observed — Modified behavior in scripts/tpch_deeplake_ingest.py: When a parallel future raises, records its table and logs the failure. The final status message now distinguishes runs with failures from successful runs; successful results are still listed, and any recorded parallel failure causes exit status 1. Sequential-load failures remain outside this tracking path.

A rabbit checks the tables run,

The good results still make the list,
A failure sets the exit code,
Then off it hops through clover fields.

Fixed in 012d35f. A missing file for a requested table now raises FileNotFoundError instead of returning a successful zero-row result. The existing worker exception handling closes its connection and the parallel coordinator exits nonzero; sequential execution propagates the failure too.

Actual-script checks with database calls mocked reproduce the original false-success result, verify both missing-input failure paths after the change, and preserve successful ingestion of a real empty file. No live database ingestion was exercised. git diff --check passed.
