Hi, I'm Samantha Cruz 👋

Data Engineering Team Lead · Microsoft Fabric · Databricks · Spark · Delta Lake
Barcelona, Spain · Conference speaker · Databricks instructor · Writing about data engineering

About me

I lead a data engineering team at isolutions, designing end-to-end data platforms on Microsoft Fabric, Databricks and Azure: ingestion, Spark transformation, medallion lakehouses, semantic models, governance, and the CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code around them.

8+ years in data, across consumer tech (Glovo), global manufacturing (AB InBev), operations (APCOA) and research (NOAA, UFRJ). I started as an oceanographic engineer working with satellite and ocean data, then moved into analytics, BI and data engineering. I still like large, messy, real-world data.

I also teach (Databricks instructor since 2024), speak at community events and write about what I learn.

Things I've built and shipped

  • 🔄 Led a Snowflake → Azure Databricks migration, including cost analysis of both platforms and an executive spend dashboard
  • 📡 Built data quality monitoring for 4 billion events/month, with Slack alerts on event-propagation failures
  • 🏗️ End-to-end Fabric platforms: ETL/ELT with PySpark and SQL, Azure DevOps + Terraform CI/CD, dev/test/prod workspace sync, automated tests and release gates, row-level security, lineage and cost control
  • 🧪 A/B tests on a catalog and customer-experience domain that lifted GMV by 7%

Talks

  • SFSCON 2026: "Who Owns Your AI Data Pipeline?", with the demo repo below

Featured projects

Project What it is
traceable-jobradar-poc A fully open-source AI data pipeline that runs on a laptop. It collects job ads from public APIs, enriches them with local models, and matches them to a CV that never leaves the machine. Delta Lake tables, OpenLineage events, data contracts, retention and a lineage-driven erasure command.
DataEngAgents A sanitized, reusable template for running AI coding agents against Microsoft Fabric and Azure DevOps: work items, wiki pages, workspaces and notebooks, with layered agent context and a dry-run-first safety model.
Satellite_Imagery_Analysis Scripts to acquire and process satellite image data, from my oceanography background.
certifications Licenses and certifications.
