- Fetch the running timer once per workspace and user, not per button - Count the timer on the button locally between two fetches - Stop a timer with one request instead of two - Skip the fetch before toggling, if the last one is less than a minute old - Poll at most every 5 minutes after a rate limit response - Allow a refresh rate of 0 to only check on key press
