Summary

Follow-up to #3098. On 2026-10-26, production /pools serves no uniswap-v4 rows for Base, Unichain or Monad, and several of the rows it does serve are wrong:

Problem Effect
~39.9k Base pools pass totalValueLockedUSD_gte: 50000 on the subgraph's own prices. ~38.3k of them have only ever had one tx, most showing a fake ~$2.5M TVL from 1000 mmETH. Pricing their 37k tokens takes ~747 coin requests. Base drops out (429s and socket hang-ups during pricing).
Unichain's deployment times out on the TVL-ordered pools query (15s). Polygon's times out on an id-ordered one (504 at 60s). Unichain drops out.
Hook (dynamic-fee) pools: since #3098 their fees come from poolDayData feesUSD, which the subgraph computes as volume × 0x800000/1e6, i.e. 8.39× volume. Arbitrum USDG-USDC ($1.08M) at 614,975%. OP A3K pools at 15–20k%.
Ethereum runs on the fallback (the primary subgraph has been halted since 2026-08-25). Its Swap logs come through the indexer's default path, and v2 offset paging returns 35% of a day's swaps as repeats of other swaps. Under the V2 indexer, 1d volume is wrong for 1,809 of 2,918 pools.
The fallback subgraph prices WBTC at ~$660k, about 8× its real price, and the 7d leg uses its snapshot volume. BTC and wstETH pairs show 7d volume and APY 4–8× too high (ETH-WBTC 0.05% apyBase7d 29.4%, against 9.6% for 1d).
The fallback pools query intermittently fails whole pages with Null value resolved for non-null field token1. Ethereum drops for that run.
BMD-USDC: the fallback subgraph reports 48.5M USDC that the pool doesn't hold. A $97M phantom pool.

Change

  • Paging: pools page with an id_gt cursor. Polygon keeps the TVL-ordered skip query (TVL_ORDERED_CHAINS). The keep-partial-pages catch is removed.
  • Retries: every subgraph request retries twice with backoff, and that includes graph ClientErrors (HTTP 200 with an errors body), which utils.withRetry does not retry.
  • txCount_gt: 1 in the main pool queries removes the Base spam without dropping a priced pool on any chain. I measured five filters. liquidity_gt: 0 drops real pools (19 on BSC, OP ETH-S*ETH at $1.37M). volumeUSD_gt: 0 drops arbitrum ETH-WBTC, which has 1.09M txs.
  • Day volumes for topLvl are filtered to pool_: {totalValueLockedUSD_gte} instead of pulling every poolDayData of the day.
  • TVL floor after repricing in topLvl: the dayData and fallback paths already had it.
  • Hook pools: the fee rate each swap actually paid comes from PoolManager Swap logs, filtered by pool id, and is applied to the subgraph's day volume. The subgraph's volume is correct. Only its fee is wrong. Logs set the rate and not the total because the public RPC pool can answer a past range with only some of its logs and no error. A traded pool that gets no logs back is retried, then left unmeasured, never 0. POOL_MANAGERS comes from each subgraph's poolManagers entity. Monad's address was checked against its pools' Swap logs.
  • Ethereum fallback:
    • Swap logs are read with clientStreaming + skipCache and deduped on txHash-logIndex.
    • The pools query gets token0_/token1_ filters (carried over from fix/adapter-volume-streaming).
    • The 7d leg uses a pool's snapshot volume only where yesterday's snapshot matches the swap logs within 25%.
    • A failed snapshot fetch now costs only the 7d leg.
    • Pool-list failover: if the fallback subgraph's pool list fails, the run reads it from a second, independently deployed v4 subgraph (EzLH76…) instead of dropping Ethereum. Each run takes its whole pool list from one subgraph, so nothing is mixed, and volume and fees still come from swap logs. On failover runs the 7d leg goes unmeasured, because that subgraph has no snapshots. Hook pools also lose their dynamic label, because it stores the current fee instead of the 0x800000 flag.
  • exclude.js: BMD-USDC. The pool sits at its only position's lower tick (-276325, $1/BMD), so on chain it holds 1e20 BMD and no USDC. The second v4 subgraph (EzLH76…) also reports 0.1 USDC for it. BMD (1.16e59 supply) has no price.

Testing

  • npm run test --adapter=uniswap-v4: 7386/7386 pass (sdk 5.0.242, V4 indexer, DL_API_KEY). After the failover commit: 4872/4872. Base's gateway was serving its lagging indexer during that run, so Base wasn't in it.
Chain prod /pools today this branch DefiLlama TVL
Ethereum 593 pools, $829M 538, $830M $799M
Base — 419, $121M $95M
Unichain — 22, $42M $12M
Arbitrum 65, $43M 56, $42M $37M
BSC 145, $38M 127, $37M $310M
Polygon 53, $12M 47, $11M $16M
OP 18, $3.9M 17, $3.9M $2.1M
Avalanche 7, $0.2M 4, $0.2M $1.4M

The lower counts on existing chains come from the TVL floor: those pools reprice under $50k, and TVL barely moves.

  • APY recompute: apyBase = feeUSD1d × 365 × 100 / tvl, recomputed from that day's poolDayData for 6 pools on arbitrum, bsc, unichain, base and polygon, matches exactly. Across 390 non-ethereum pools present before and after, volumeUsd1d is identical, so the day-volume filter loses nothing.
  • Hook pools, recomputed from raw logs: Arbitrum USDG-USDC 614,975% → 3.70%. OP WETH-A3K 15,232% → 1.82% (1.768 WETH swapped at a 0.1% fee). Unichain ETH-WBTC 10,018% → 0.55%. Tested with logs stubbed to all, 1%, none, and empty-then-real. Dense pools stay exact from 1% of their logs, and a pool with no logs back is left unmeasured.
  • Ethereum Swap logs, one full day (119,962 swaps) vs plain RPC:
Fetch path Missing swaps Pools with wrong sums Time
Indexer V2, default 42,556 1,809 / 2,918 60s
Indexer V2, clientStreaming 0 0 42s
Indexer V4, default 0 0 51s
Indexer V4, clientStreaming 0 0 17s
  • Ethereum fallback volumeUsd1d within 1% of RPC truth: before 27/252 under V2 and 252/252 under V4. After: 252/252 under both. The fallback takes 27s, down from 73s. The 19 active BTC pools no longer report an inflated 7d figure.
  • Failover: with the main fallback subgraph forced down, Ethereum still publishes 614 pools ($720M). On the 530 pools shared with a normal run, APY is within 1% and TVL within 5% for 528. With it up, output is unchanged (539 pools, $830M). With both down, Ethereum drops as before.
  • Pool keys are unchanged, so restored Base and Unichain pools continue their existing history and no new keys are created.

Not fixed

  • Monad: the subgraph has no indexer allocations.
  • Ethereum's primary subgraph has been halted since 2026-08-25. Ethereum now runs on the fallback, with the pool-list failover behind it. Both subgraphs are served by an overlapping set of indexers. Combining their pool lists would add 80 pools ($44M) that each one's own pricing filters out, but it would need a reserve-agreement guard first. They disagree on BMD: 48.5M USDC against 0.1.
  • Unichain subgraph reserves are ~3× what the PoolManager holds, so its TVL is overstated and its APY understated.
  • Base: the gateway sometimes routes block-pinned queries to an indexer ~1.77M blocks behind, and Base drops for that run.
  • Hook-pool logs on chains without a configured RPC go through public endpoints that 429 or refuse old ranges. The retry recovered in testing.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved Uniswap v4 pool data coverage with pagination and an Ethereum backup data source.
    • Added retries to data requests, helping recover from temporary failures while retaining successful results from other pools.
    • Improved daily fee and volume reporting for dynamic-fee pools using swap activity, with checks against subgraph data.
    • Seven-day volume is now reported only when snapshot data meets availability and consistency checks; seven-day APY is not reported for dynamic-fee pools.
    • Excluded a specific Ethereum pool from results.

- Page pools with an id_gt cursor instead of skip; polygon keeps the
  tvl-ordered skip query because its deployment times out scanning by id,
  while unichain's times out sorting by tvl. Drops the keep-partial catch.
- Filter the topLvl poolDayDatas fetch to pools above TVL_MIN, so one
  failed page of unrelated day data no longer empties the chain.
- Retry every subgraph request twice with backoff, including graph
  ClientErrors (indexer failures arrive as HTTP 200 with an errors body),
  which utils.withRetry does not cover.
- Apply TVL_MIN after utils.tvl reprices, as topLvlDayData and
  topLvlFallback already do; base otherwise emits ~39k zero-tvl spam rows.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Hook (dynamic-fee) pools: the subgraph's feesUSD is volume x 0x800000/1e6
  (~839%), giving APYs like 614,975%. Read the fee rate each swap actually
  paid from PoolManager Swap logs, filtered to the hook pools' ids, and apply
  it to the subgraph's day volume. The rpc pool can return a past range with
  only some of its logs and no error, so logs set the rate only; a traded
  pool with no logs is retried, then left unmeasured. Covers topLvl and the
  monad dayData path; the 7d leg stays unmeasured for hook pools.
- Require txCount > 1 in the main pool queries: ~39k base pools clear
  TVL_MIN on subgraph prices with a single tx and zero liquidity, and
  pricing their tokens (~750 requests) took base down. No priced pool on
  any chain is lost; base runtime ~183s -> ~64s.
- POOL_MANAGERS per chain, read from each subgraph's poolManagers entity.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Swap logs via clientStreaming + skipCache, deduped on txHash-logIndex.
  Indexer v2's default offset paging repeats ~35% of a day's swaps in place
  of others (62% of pools wrong); v4 and clientStreaming match rpc exactly
  over a full day, and clientStreaming is the fastest (fallback 73s -> 27s).
- token0_/token1_ filters on the fallback pools query, which otherwise
  intermittently fails whole pages with "Null value resolved for non-null
  field token1" and drops ethereum.
- 7d leg: the fallback subgraph prices some tokens badly (WBTC at ~8x), so
  snapshot volume is used only where yesterday's matches the swap logs
  within 25%; inflated BTC/wstETH 7d APYs are left unmeasured instead.
- A failed snapshot fetch now costs the 7d leg only, not the chain.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The pool sits at its only position's lower tick (-276325, $1/BMD), so on
chain it holds 1e20 BMD and no USDC, but the ethereum fallback subgraph
reports 48.5M USDC, which the x2 single-priced-side rule turns into $97M of
tvl. BMD (1.16e59 supply) has no price, so the pool has no measurable tvl.
The second v4 subgraph (EzLH76) reports 0.1 USDC for it.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…graph

When the fallback subgraph's pool list fails, read it from an independently
deployed v4 subgraph (EzLH76…) instead of dropping ethereum. It indexes the
same canonical poolIds, and its reserves match on 528/530 shared pools within
5%. Each run takes its whole pool list from one subgraph, so nothing is mixed.
Volume and fees still come from swap logs. It has no snapshots, so the 7d leg
goes unmeasured on failover runs, and it stores a hook pool's current fee
rather than the 0x800000 flag, so those lose the dynamic label.

Walkthrough

The Uniswap v4 adaptor now retries GraphQL requests, paginates pool queries by chain, and derives dynamic-fee values from Swap logs. Ethereum fallback queries can use a backup subgraph, and fallback seven-day volume requires snapshot and log agreement. The pool exclusion list now includes a BMD-USDC pool.

Changes: Uniswap v4 adaptor

Layer / File(s) Summary
Pool retrieval and pagination
src/adaptors/uniswap-v4/index.js
The adaptor configures PoolManager addresses and an Ethereum backup subgraph. Pool queries retry, require more than one transaction, and paginate by TVL on Polygon or by ID on other chains.
Daily volume and fee output
src/adaptors/uniswap-v4/index.js
Daily volume queries accept pool and block filters and include token0 volume. Dynamic-fee pools use log-derived fees. Seven-day fees are limited to full-week, non-dynamic pools.
Swap-log fee calculation
src/adaptors/uniswap-v4/index.js
Swap logs can be fetched per pool and deduplicated. Dynamic-fee calculations retry when logged token0 volume does not meet the subgraph coverage threshold.
Fallback queries and snapshot checks
src/adaptors/uniswap-v4/index.js
Fallback pool queries select the fee field and filter tokens by decimals. Seven-day fallback volume requires snapshot coverage and agreement with swap-log volume, and is unavailable when the backup subgraph is used.

BMD-USDC pool exclusion

- A hook pool's fee rate counts only once that day's Swap logs add up to
  >=99% of the subgraph's volumeToken0. A subset of a variable-fee hook's
  swaps averages a different fee than the day did. Retries ask again only
  for pools still unmeasured and keep the ones already measured.
- Hook logs come from the indexer's clientStreaming, one pool id per
  request (it answers a list of ids with HTTP 400 on unichain), instead
  of the rpc pool. On optimism the rpc pool returned 1-8% of a day's
  swaps with no error.
- The ethereum fallback drops the snapshot 7d leg when its pool list
  came from the backup subgraph. That subgraph stores a hook pool's
  current fee rather than the dynamic flag, and the snapshots come from
  the other subgraph.
- Day volumes are read at the pool list's block, so the pool_ tvl filter
  sees the same state.
- BMD exclusion comment: the pool holds the 0.1 USDC its one swap paid
  in, not none.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Hook-pool Swap logs are fetched one pool id per request. With
Promise.all, one rejected request threw away every other pool's logs
from that attempt, so a pool whose request failed on every attempt took
the healthy pools down with it. allSettled keeps the pools that
answered. A failed pool reads as missing logs, so it alone is retried
and then left unmeasured.

# graphql-request

Minimal GraphQL client supporting Node and browsers for scripts or simple apps.

## Highlights

  * Most simple & lightweight GraphQL client
  * Promise-based API (works with `async` / `await`)
  * Pure ESM package
  * First class TypeScript support
    * Including `TypedDocumentNode`
  * Isomorphic (works in both Node and Browsers)

## Install

    npm add graphql-request graphql

#### TypeScript Setup

This package uses `package.exports`. Therefore if you are a TypeScript user you must:

  1. have your `tsconfig.json` `moduleResolution` set to `"bundler"` or `"node16"`/`"nodenext"`.
  2. Have your `package.json` `type` set to `"module"`.

## Quick Start

Send a GraphQL document using a static request function:

    import { gql, request } from 'graphql-request'

    const document = gql`

## Variables

### variable batchRequests

    `

    const batchRequests: BatchRequests;

    `

  * Send a batch of GraphQL Document to the GraphQL server for execution.

#### Example 1

    `

    // You can pass a raw string

    await batchRequests('https://foo.bar/graphql', [

    {

     query: `

      {

        query {

          users

        }

      }`

    },

    {

      query: `

      {

        query {

          users

        }

      }`

    }])

    // You can also pass a GraphQL DocumentNode as query. Convenient if you

    // are using graphql-tag package.

    import gql from 'graphql-tag'

    await batchRequests('https://foo.bar/graphql', [{ query: gql`...` }])

    `

### variable rawRequest

    `

    const rawRequest: RawRequest;

    `

  * Send a GraphQL Query to the GraphQL server for execution.

## Functions

### function analyzeDocument

    `

    analyzeDocument: (

        document: RequestDocument,

        excludeOperationName?: boolean

    ) => { expression: string; operationName: string | undefined; isMutation: boolean };

    `

### function gql

    `

    gql: (chunks: TemplateStringsArray, ...variables: unknown[]) => string;

    `

  * Convenience passthrough template tag to get the benefits of tooling for the gql template tag. This does not actually parse the input into a GraphQL DocumentNode like graphql-tag package does. It just returns the string with any variables given interpolated. Can save you a bit of performance and having to install another package.

#### Remarks

Several tools in the Node GraphQL ecosystem are hardcoded to specially treat any template tag named "gql". For example see this prettier issue: GitHub issue 4360 in prettier/prettier (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference). Using this template tag has no runtime effect beyond variable interpolation.

#### Example 1

    `

    import { gql } from 'graphql-request'

    await request('https://foo.bar/graphql', gql`...`)

    `

### function request

    `

    request: {

        <T = any, V extends object = object>(

            options: RequestExtendedOptions<V, T>

Skip permanent 4xx responses in requestWithRetry.

graphql-request exposes the HTTP status through e.response.status. Throw immediately for 4xx responses other than 429. This avoids two unnecessary requests and about three seconds of delay for each affected pool, day-volume, or snapshot query. Keep retrying HTTP-200 GraphQL errors, 429 responses, 5xx responses, and network errors.

Suggested fix
     } catch (e) {
-      if (i === retries) throw e;
-      await new Promise((r) => setTimeout(r, 1000 * 2 ** i));
+      const status = e.response?.status;
+      const permanent = status >= 400 && status < 500 && status !== 429;
+      if (i === retries || permanent) throw e;
+      await new Promise((r) => setTimeout(r, 1000 * 2 ** i));

Jitter is not required for this correction. The fixed delay is a separate resilience concern and is not established as a material failure here.

Review comment at @src/adaptors/uniswap-v4/index.js around lines 114 - 123:
Update requestWithRetry to inspect e.response.status and immediately rethrow 4xx
errors other than 429. Preserve retries for HTTP-200 GraphQL errors, 429, 5xx,
and network errors, along with the existing retry limit and backoff behavior.
